An Introduction & Tour

Hello, everyone! Welcome to Cricket Quilts. Thank you for being here and I thought I would use this first post to talk about who I am, what this is, and what my quilting “studio” is like.

About me: Well, there is the about me page…but I thought I would go into a little more detail here. My name is Damon and I reside in Wisconsin with my wife, Kinsey, and our two cats: Cricket and Tink. I have a LOT of hobbies (I think my wife would argue too many): cycling, playing video games with my college best friend, camping, cross stitch, quilting, and taking quilting classes with my wife! This year (2025), I got into quilting after my wife got her new sewing machine and I inherited her old one. We found a beginner’s quilt making class at our local quilt shop, signed up, and I fell in love with quilting! The precision and creativity really drew me towards the craft, as well as watching the project slowly come together. As I have continued to quilt this year, I wanted to share my love with others and to grow a welcoming community of fellow quilters. Then…as I am piecing a special quilt (a post on that coming soon), my cat Cricket jumped up and sat at the sewing machine. Boom, “Cricket Quilts” came into my mind and I was ready to start this blog. I am not a writer (trust me, my English grades can back this up) but I felt this was the best way to express myself. Please forgive my grammatical errors that will inevitably continue to happen, but we can hope that they get better over time. 🙂

What is Cricket Quilts: As I alluded to above, Cricket Quilts is my blog that I will use to share my love of quilting, projects I’m working on, patterns I love, quilts readers want to share, reviews/thoughts on different quilting items, and more. Please feel free to provide feedback or reach out to me to discuss different ideas you have. I want this to be an open and welcoming community! I will also be creating social media pages to help promote this site.

What is my quilting “studio” like: Well, first, it’s not a studio. My wife and I currently reside in a 2-bedroom apartment (that house will come someday) and my studio is wherever I happen to have room to set up a table to put the sewing machine on. I do have a few items that I thought I would share that have helped make my constrained space a better area to quilt. First, my Sewezi Portable Sewing Table. It is compact, foldable, and has a spot for an insert so your sewing machine fits in level with the tabletop. I can set it up in my living room, sew for a few hours, then put it away. My other favorite is a foldable cutting table from Amazon. I can wheel it out, unfold the sides, cut my fabric, then put it away. Nice and easy! Soon, I will share all the tools I currently have for quilting and what my favorites are, but I wanted to at least give an insight into my quilting space.

Just like that, this first post is over! I wanted to take a few moments to share a little more about me, what I intend Cricket Quilts to be, and what my current studio is like. Please provide feedback, reach with any ideas, or anything you want to share! I am still working on how often I will post, but I am thinking once or twice a month with supplemental posts of projects I am working on.

Happy Holidays and Happy Quilting!
-Damon
